Woke up to another great view. By now I was getting so used to witnessing scenic views that I was wondering how I would cope without it back home.
We had our breakfast and left K.K camps to proceed towards our first stop for the day- Jaisalmer Fort.
As soon as we reached the fort, at the entrance there were few shops of traditional attires and restaurants and ahead was an aslant way up inside the fort. To the opposite of the main entrance there was the main commercial area, bit congested, arraying with shops, restaurants and hotels. The ambiance, though buzzed by tourists from all over the world was worth the clicks of the magnificent work of the fort.
We learned a lot about the history of the city. The various rooms inside the palace were beautiful. We walked into the fort and the gates and the havelis were amazing. It all reminded me very much of a fairy tale.
We then proceeded towards Bada Bagh which was just about 10 minutes from Jaisalmer. Bada Bagh is called ‘Bara Bagh’ in the local language and it means a big garden.
However, this place is anything but a garden. This is a place that was built as the memory of the royal family -for those kings and queens who passed away. It’s a piece of Jaisalmer’s history and must be visited at least once.
It had lovely architecture. There was a guide who explained us the history of the kings and queens whose tombs are made under the Cenotaphs (chattris).
After Bada bagh, we proceeded towards our hotel. We checked in our pre-booked Jaisalgarh Hotel around 2.00 p.m. After a couple of hours’ rest, we proceeded to Gadsisar Lake, about 3 kms from our hotel. This lake is a popular evening destination for the locals as well as tourists.
There are a couple of yellow sand stone pavilions constructed in the midst of the lake.
It has also become a sort of pilgrimage place as there are temples at the shore of the lake the most famous ones being Shiva temple and Krishna temple. We then went back to our hotel.
There was DJ night arranged for us and we also celebrated Lohri. We quickly finished our dinner and got ready for a night full of fun and of course, scary stories.
Some of us were inclined towards singing/dancing while others exchanged spooky stories that were based on real life experiences. We heard the most absurd ‘true’ stories.
Although it was a long and tiring day, it was one of the most memorable day of my trip.
Stay tuned for the last post of my Jodhpur-Jaisalmer travelogue
Love,
Pooja
