Today was the day of our return journey after spending a day in Jaisalmer. Our train was scheduled to leave in the evening from Jodhpur.
We wanted to visit Umaid Bhawan as soon as we reach Jodhpur. So we had our breakfast and started our return journey to Jodhpur around 9.00 a.m.
The journey was smooth with good road condition and less traffic. We halted for a lunch break around 12 and we reached Umaid Bhawan around 3.00 p.m.
Umaid Bhawan Palace, home to Maharaja Gaj Singh and the royal family of Jodhpur, is the magnificent crown of the Royal blue city. It is located on Chittar Hill, the highest point in Jodhpur and it is just 5 kilometers from Jodhpur Railway station.
This Palace left me in awe from the moment I entered the premises. The Palace is named after Maharaja Umaid Singh. The construction of this palace was started in the year 1929 and it was completed in 1943. The 347-roomed massive palace is currently the world’s sixth-largest private residence. The palace boasts of a combination of Indian and European style of architecture. A part of the palace still serves as a residence to the former royal family, while other two parts of the palace are converted into Taj Palace Hotel and museum.
Our trip to Jodhpur and Jaisalmer was coming to an end. Finally it was time to return back home. We boarded our train to Mumbai with a heavy heart and fond memories of the trip. The train left at 7.00 p.m. and we reached Mumbai at 11.00 a.m on the next day cherishing the memories of the Royal Blue city Jodhpur and Golden Desert City Jaisalmer.
In short, Rajasthan is a beautiful place. Kudos to people who live there. They have found the perfect formula to woo foreign tourists.
All in all, Rajasthan undoubtedly deserves the ‘Royal’ tag.
Stay tuned for my next journey.
Until then,
Pooja
